Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese unite on a star-studded US World Cup qualifying roster

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to Lead U.S. Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Roster

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have been selected to represent the U.S. women’s basketball team in the upcoming World Cup qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico. The dynamic duo will headline a talented 12-player roster that features a mix of experienced veterans and promising young stars.

Clark and Reese have been instrumental in the growth of women’s basketball in recent years, with their standout performances capturing the attention of fans and scouts alike. Their journey began with a memorable showdown in the NCAA championship game in 2023, where LSU emerged victorious.

Joining them on the roster are a number of accomplished athletes, including 2024 Olympic gold medalists Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young. Dearica Hamby and Rhyne Howard, who secured a 3×3 bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Games, will also be part of the squad.

Rounding out the team are newcomers Paige Bueckers, Sonia Citron, and Kiki Iriafen, along with Aliyah Boston, who previously represented the U.S. at the Olympic qualifying tournament in 2024.

Despite battling injuries that limited her WNBA appearances last season, Clark has declared herself fit and ready to compete. The team will also benefit from the presence of three-time Olympic and world champion Breanna Stewart, who will provide support during training in Miami but will not participate in the tournament.

Leading the team will be U.S. Olympic coach Kara Lawson, who will be assisted by Natalie Nakase, Nate Tibbets, and Stephanie White. The coaching staff brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, having previously served as court coaches at a U.S. training camp.

The U.S. team will face tough competition from Senegal, Puerto Rico, Italy, New Zealand, and Spain in the upcoming tournament. With a spot in the World Cup in Berlin already secured, the Americans are aiming for a fifth consecutive championship title.
