Casa Bonita union, including cliff divers, launch Halloween strike
Performers at Casa Bonita Plan Three-Day Strike on Halloween
Guests at Casa Bonita on Halloween will not be entertained by cliff divers as the restaurant’s cast of performers prepares for a three-day strike.
The Actors’ Equity Association announced on Wednesday that unionized performers at Casa Bonita, including divers, magicians, and roving actors, will picket outside the iconic pink palace at 6715 W. Colfax Ave. in Lakewood. The strike is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on October 30 through November 1.
In November 2024, Casa Bonita workers voted to unionize in order to secure better pay and workplace protections. The restaurant, owned by “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, reopened in 2023 after a $40 million renovation following a bankruptcy purchase.
Despite serving thousands of diners weekly, performers have raised concerns about incidents involving guest safety at Casa Bonita.
Negotiations between the 57-member bargaining unit and management have been ongoing since April. Last month, an unfair labor practices charge was filed after performers’ hours were cut for a Halloween event.
The union claims that management has failed to respond to key proposals essential for reaching a contract agreement. Lead negotiator Andrea Hoeschen expressed disappointment in Casa Bonita’s latest wage offer and lack of layoff protections.
