‘Cereal’ offender busted for sneaky shoplifting trick at grocery store checkout

A daring cereal-box thief was apprehended in Brea, California, after attempting to pilfer Pokémon cards and other collectibles by concealing them inside breakfast boxes. The Brea Police Department disclosed that the repeat offender had a specific modus operandi of covertly placing the trading cards and other items inside empty cereal boxes to evade detection at the checkout counter.

The police department humorously remarked on their successful apprehension of the suspect, stating, “Unfortunately for the suspect, our officers’ investigation was SUPER EFFECTIVE. We were able to recover the stolen merchandise and take the individual into custody without incident.” Images from the arrest depicted stacks of Pokémon cards alongside numerous torn-open boxes of Honeycomb, Kix, Corn Flakes, and Cheerios.

Additionally, a photo showcased a multitude of other items presumably recovered from the thief, including electric razors, calculators, shampoo bottles, printer ink cartridges, and women’s undergarments, among other miscellaneous items. In a separate incident earlier this year, thieves orchestrated two robberies in Los Angeles, absconding with a set of Pokémon cards and other collectibles valued at $300,000. One of the heists involved a brazen theft captured on camera, where the culprits used an electric saw to steal the valuable merchandise.
