U.S. and China Emphasize Cooperation Amidst Geopolitical Tensions

In a press conference held in Beijing, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao expressed optimism about the potential for collaboration between the United States and China. With an upcoming meeting between the presidents of both nations scheduled for October 30, Wang highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation.

Quoting General Secretary Xi Jinping, Wang emphasized the significance of working together and avoiding decoupling between the two countries. He reiterated China’s commitment to global supply chain security while advocating for mutual respect in addressing bilateral issues.

Wang emphasized that finding common ground and fostering a healthy relationship is essential for the sustainable development of China-U.S. relations. While an official meeting between the leaders is yet to be confirmed, the White House indicated a potential encounter during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea.

Additionally, Vice Minister He Lifeng was set to engage in trade discussions with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Malaysia, further signaling a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue.

Focus on Technological Advancements and Economic Growth

Following the conclusion of the “Fourth Plenum,” a key meeting to discuss long-term development strategies, Commerce Minister Wang addressed the media alongside Han Wenxiu, a senior official from the ruling Communist Party.

Han emphasized the importance of achieving significant advancements in new technological sectors, stimulating consumer demand, and expediting the transition to a sustainable energy framework. He underscored the interconnectedness of international relations and domestic progress, highlighting the need for strategic planning and collaboration.
