Couple jailed after baby found in home with rotting goat carcass, dozens of animals

A shocking incident unfolded in South Carolina recently, as authorities discovered a horrifying scene of filth inside a home where an 8-month-old baby was living among 47 neglected animals, including a decomposing goat carcass. The parents, Kayla Renard and Nicholas Foley, were arrested after the Department of Social Services raised the alarm about the unsanitary conditions in their Honea Path residence.
Upon entering the home, police were met with a distressing sight – numerous raccoons, rabbits, dogs, cats, and chickens were found living in squalor, surrounded by animal feces and waste. The most disturbing discovery was the remains of a goat found in a bathtub, adding to the nightmarish conditions of the household.
The Anderson County PAWS Director, Dr. Kim Sanders, described the scene as unbearable, with the overwhelming stench of feces and ammonia making it difficult to breathe. The neglected animals were rescued by her staff, who were appalled by the conditions they encountered. The lack of water bowls and the overall filth in the home painted a grim picture of neglect and suffering for the helpless creatures.
Photos from inside the residence revealed dogs confined to stacked crates, with maggots infesting food bowls and trash scattered throughout the house. Police noted that in their over 30 years of service, they had never encountered such horrific living conditions. Sanders emphasized that the animals, confined to their crates for an extended period, would not have survived much longer in such deplorable conditions.
The infant found in the home was removed and placed in the care of a relative, ensuring their safety and well-being. Chief Christopher Miller reassured the public that despite the unsanitary conditions of the house, the child was in good health.
Renard and Foley were charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and ill treatment of animals for subjecting their child and pets to such appalling conditions. The authorities have deemed the home uninhabitable, highlighting the severity of the neglect and abuse that occurred within its walls. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper care and respect for both children and animals in our society.
