Crashes as Stranger Things 5 Finale Releases

Netflix experienced technical difficulties once again during the premiere of the series finale of “Stranger Things.” The streaming service crashed for some users at 5 p.m. PT, right when the highly anticipated finale was set to drop. This issue lasted for about a minute and was resolved after a few refreshes. Users who encountered the error were greeted with a message stating, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You’ll find lots to explore on the home page.”

This isn’t the first time Netflix has faced technical issues during a major release. Just a few weeks prior, during the Season 5 premiere on Nov. 26, the streaming platform also experienced a brief outage when the first four episodes of the season were released. In addition, Season 4 of “Stranger Things” and the livestream of the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match also caused technical difficulties in the past.

Despite these challenges, Netflix managed to bounce back with the release of the second batch of Season 5 episodes on Christmas Day, which garnered the highest viewership ever for Christmas Day. The three new episodes propelled the season to become the most-watched title worldwide during the week of Dec. 22-28, with 34.5 million views. The success of Season 5 was further highlighted by its record-breaking debut week in November, with 59.6 million views, making it Netflix’s best-ever opening week for an English-language title.

In addition to its online success, the series finale of “Stranger Things” is also being screened in select theaters on New Year’s Eve. Co-creator Ross Duffer shared on Instagram that 1.1 million people have RSVP’d for theatrical screenings, with 3,500 sold-out screenings across 620 theaters. Duffer expressed gratitude for the 10-year journey with fans and hinted at the possibility of meeting some of them in Los Angeles.

The popularity and success of “Stranger Things” have solidified its place as a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences both online and in theaters. As fans eagerly await the conclusion of this beloved series, Netflix continues to deliver groundbreaking content that keeps viewers coming back for more.
