David Tennant Is At His Best

Hulu’s “Rivals” Season 2: A Scandalous Delight

Hulu’s “Rivals” Season 2 is a deliciously scandalous dark comedy set in 1980s England, adapted from Jilly Cooper’s “Rutshire Chronicles” novels. The series follows the intense rivalry between legendary television executive Lord Tony Baddingham, managing director of Corinium (played by David Tennant), and his former show host Declan O’Hara (Aidan Turner) who teams up with retired Olympian Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) to create their own television enterprise. Season 1 introduced viewers to this over-the-top world of the British elite, and Season 2 takes it up a notch with tonally perfect and exceptional storytelling.

Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off, with Rupert, Declan, and tech billionaire Freddie Jones (Danny Dyer) forming their own network, Venturer, to challenge Tony’s Corinium for Rutshire’s television franchise. The conflict between the two networks sets the stage for a series of scandalous events, with revenge, betrayal, and love triangles intertwining to create a captivating narrative.

The characters in “Rivals” are intricately detailed and brilliantly portrayed by the cast. Taggie (Bella Maclean), Charles Fairburn (Gart Lamont), and Lady Monica Baddingham (Claire Rushbrook) bring depth and emotion to the series, while the antagonists, Tony and Cameron (Nafessa Williams), are vindictive and cutthroat yet undeniably human. The push-and-pull dynamics between the characters make for compelling viewing, drawing viewers into the world of aristocracy and glamour of the 1980s.

The first three episodes of “Rivals” Season 2 debut on Hulu on May 15, with the remaining episodes airing weekly in pairs on Fridays. The rest of the season will premiere later this year. With its mix of intelligence, espionage, illicit affairs, and jaw-dropping twists, “Rivals” is a must-watch for fans of soapy drama and captivating storytelling. Don’t miss out on this immersive viewing experience that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
