Denver mansion with Scandinavian design lists for $8.8M on real estate market

Mike and Leslie McCabe typically focus their efforts on renovating homes in Cherry Hills Village, but the Scandinavian-style house at 950 S. Steele St. in Denver’s Belcaro neighborhood captured their interest.

Although the large home on a nearly half-acre lot appeared cold and neglected, the McCabes saw its potential with its clean lines and expansive windows.

“It needed the attention it deserved,” remarked Mike McCabe.

In February, the couple purchased the property for $4.4 million and embarked on a project to transform the 9,500-square-foot residence into what they now call the Golden Hour Haus.

They have since put the property on the market with Mike McCabe, an employee at The Agency-Denver, listing it for $8.8 million.

Under their company, McCabe Ln. Homes, the McCabes completed a full renovation of the mansion built in 2007.

“Our aim was to create a residence that exuded a contemporary and natural feel, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor spaces. Our inspiration stemmed from a trip to Tulum, Mexico, and the ideas just flowed from there,” explained Mike McCabe.

The outcome is a property that enhances the indoor-outdoor connection by maximizing natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. The use of Austin White limestone both inside and outside imparts a modern yet natural Colorado ambiance, according to Mike McCabe.

The objective was to craft a luxury home that harmoniously combines luxury with practicality.

The focal point of the main floor is a designer kitchen featuring a 17-foot mitered Taj Mahal island, paired with walnut cabinetry and paneled appliances. Additionally, there is a secondary cooking area equipped with high-end appliances.

“Our emphasis was on creating an aesthetically pleasing kitchen in the front while concealing the mess in the scullery behind,” stated Mike McCabe.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home includes a lower-level area with walnut-paneled walls, a gym, a cold plunge, and a sauna.

The primary suite on the second floor showcases a custom closet and a spa-like bathroom with a freestanding solid travertine tub, a steam shower, and dual vanities. The upstairs also houses a loft, three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and laundry facilities.
