DIA flight delays stack up as thunderstorms sweep across Denver
More than 400 Flights Delayed at Denver International Airport Due to Thunderstorms
Over 400 flights were delayed at Denver International Airport on Wednesday as scattered thunderstorms and showers swept across the Front Range.
Flights bound for various East Coast airports experienced delays ranging from 20 minutes to nearly 2 hours. The affected airports included Logan International Airport in Boston, Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., and Kennedy International Airport in New York City, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration.
According to FlightAware, there were 434 delayed flights and five cancellations at DIA by 12:30 p.m.
Among the airlines affected, Southwest Airlines reported 176 delays, United had 131 delayed flights, and SkyWest experienced 69 delays.
Metro Denver was hit with scattered showers and wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph, but conditions were expected to improve by 5 p.m. before another round of storms on Friday afternoon, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
