Disgraced ex-anchor arrested for fourth time in 5 years after allegedly assaulting his ‘weed addict’ daughter during argument
Disgraced ex-anchor Frank Somerville, 67, found himself in trouble yet again on Monday, marking his fourth arrest in the last five years. This time, the arrest followed an alleged assault on his daughter during a “physical fight” over money.
According to the Oakland Police Department, the reported assault took place just before 5:45 p.m. on Monday, but the individuals involved were not initially named. However, Somerville took to social media to share his side of the story, pointing the blame at his daughter.
Somerville described his daughter as a “full-blown weed addict” who showed up at his home in withdrawal, seeking money. He claimed that a physical altercation ensued when he asked her to leave and tried to calm her down.
After the altercation, Somerville’s ex-wife called him to her house out of fear that their daughter might harm her as well. Upon arriving at his ex-wife’s residence, Somerville was met by the police, who had been notified of the incident by his daughter. Despite his daughter allegedly stating that she did not want to press charges, Somerville was taken into custody.
In a Facebook post, Somerville expressed his love for his daughter and emphasized that he would never intentionally hurt her. He also shared that he has been sober for nine months and was completely sober at the time of the alleged assault.
Following his arrest, Somerville was released on bail, as indicated by Alameda County Sheriff’s Office records. This incident adds to a series of legal troubles Somerville has faced in recent years, largely attributed to his struggles with alcoholism.
In 2021, Somerville admitted to being intoxicated when he caused a car accident during a taco run. He also made headlines for appearing on a live news broadcast while slurring his words, attributing his behavior to mistakenly taking Ambien pills.
The situation escalated in June 2023 when Somerville was arrested twice in one night. The first arrest was related to a physical altercation with his brother, while the second occurred when he was found intoxicated in his car.
Somerville’s personal issues seemed to coincide with his divorce proceedings, initiated by his ex-wife shortly after his first arrest in 2021. Despite his challenges, Somerville has publicly shared his commitment to sobriety and expressed hope for his daughter to seek treatment. The former news anchor’s turbulent journey continues to unfold, garnering attention for both his professional and personal struggles.
