Disney loses $170 million with ‘Snow White’ live action flop

After facing years of controversy and disappointing box office results, Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” in 2025 has reportedly resulted in a loss of approximately $170 million.

According to Forbes, recent filings indicate that the remake of “Snow White” cost a staggering $336.5 million to produce, yet failed to generate substantial returns despite the controversy surrounding the film.

The decision to film in the United Kingdom, with its favorable reimbursement laws for filmmakers, shed light on Disney’s massive expenses. The creation of a subsidiary company, Hidden Heart Productions, was necessary in order to film in the U.K. and adhere to the strict regulations in place.

Despite receiving a reimbursement of $64.9 million from the U.K. government, the net expenses for “Snow White” totaled $271.6 million, which was not enough to offset the production costs.

In addition to financial setbacks, the remake of “Snow White” also faced cultural controversies. From criticisms regarding the original story to casting choices and social media posts, the film sparked heated debates and backlash.

Ultimately, Disney’s live-action “Snow White” remake stands as one of the biggest box office disappointments in the history of the movie industry, with financial losses reaching unprecedented levels.
