Father and son both dead after robbing Connecticut bank together

A tragic incident unfolded in Connecticut last week when a father and son duo robbed a bank in Groton and later succumbed to gunshot wounds after a prolonged standoff with law enforcement. Shaun Fallon, 56, and his 27-year-old son Zachary Fallon, donning medical masks, held up the Chelsea Groton Bank at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, managing to flee with an undisclosed sum of money.

Following a six-hour search, the suspects’ getaway vehicle was located at a nearby Super 8 Motel, where they barricaded themselves and claimed to be armed with firearms and explosives. Negotiations failed to persuade the pair to surrender, leading to a tense standoff. Eventually, two gunshots were heard from inside the motel room, with drones confirming that both suspects had sustained gunshot wounds.

Law enforcement teams, including a bomb squad, cleared the way for entry into the room, ensuring the safety of other guests at the motel. Despite initial reports of explosives, none were found on the premises. The Fallons, hailing from Charleston, Rhode Island, were rushed to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment. Tragically, Zachary Fallon passed away within hours, while Shaun Fallon fought for his life for several days before ultimately succumbing to his injuries on Monday.

The official cause of death for both individuals is pending determination by the medical examiner’s office. Police Chief L.J. Fusaro commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by law enforcement personnel throughout the harrowing ordeal. The investigation into the bank robbery and subsequent standoff continues as authorities seek to unravel the events leading to this tragic outcome.
