Fuel switches on Air India flight cut off moments before fatal crash: Preliminary report
A tragic incident occurred last month when an Air India flight crashed, resulting in the loss of 260 lives. A preliminary report has shed light on the events leading up to the crash, revealing that the fuel to the plane’s engines was inexplicably shut off just seconds after takeoff.
The report indicates that shortly after the plane lifted off, the fuel cutoff switches for both engines were switched from the “RUN” position to the “CUTOFF” position in quick succession, effectively cutting off fuel supply to the engines. In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots can be heard questioning the other about hitting the cutoff switch, to which the response was a denial.
Despite efforts to restore fuel flow to the engines and initiate an automatic restart sequence, there was not enough time to prevent the tragic crash. Approximately 20 seconds after the cutoff switch was activated, a distress call of “MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY” was transmitted by one of the pilots before the black box stopped recording.
The Air India flight, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members en route to the United Kingdom, crashed into a building shortly after takeoff on June 12, resulting in the loss of all onboard except for one survivor. Additionally, several individuals on the ground lost their lives in the tragic incident.
It is crucial to note that the death toll has been revised based on more accurate figures released by Indian officials.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of aviation safety measures and the need for thorough investigations to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this devastating event.
