Gangbanger busted for attempted murder after West Indian Day Parade shootings in NYC: cops

A notorious gang member, Dashawn Fleming, was charged with attempted murder for his involvement in a shooting that took place during the annual West Indian American Day parade. The incident occurred at Nostrand Avenue and Sterling Street in Crown Heights, injuring two men. One victim, a 53-year-old man, was shot in the neck and right leg, while the other, a 40-year-old man, was shot in the right ankle. Both victims were hospitalized in stable condition.

Fleming, who is affiliated with the 9 Trey crew, was arrested at the scene as he tried to flee. He was charged with attempted murder and assault. Police recovered a gun and four shell casings at the scene. The motive behind the violence is still under investigation.

In a separate incident, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the left hand and back around 9:40 p.m. at Rochester Avenue and Eastern Parkway. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and listed in stable condition. The motive for this shooting remains unclear as the teen claimed to have heard shots and felt pain.

The chaos began after the parade had ended, with multiple shootings occurring along the parade route. A 26-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 42-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue. Both victims were taken to Kings County Hospital Center in stable condition. The male victim, affiliated with the Blood Hound Brims gang, has a history of prior arrests and was uncooperative with authorities.

Two other men, aged 26 and 21, were shot on Eastern Parkway near Classon Avenue, with the older victim struck in the shoulder and the younger man in the chest. Additionally, a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach and slashed in the hand in front of an apartment building on Lincoln Place near Schenectady Avenue.

These incidents highlight the ongoing violence that has plagued the J’Ouvert and West Indian Day Parade festivities. The NYPD deployed a record number of officers to the event in an effort to maintain security and prevent further violence. Revelers were subject to stringent security measures, including thorough screenings with handheld metal detectors and the presence of multiple barricades along the parade route.
