Gavin Newsom Says He’s Considering 2028 Presidential Campaign
Gavin Newsom Considering Presidential Run in 2028
Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, has hinted at the possibility of running for president in the 2028 election. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Newsom admitted that he has been contemplating a presidential bid once his term limit ends in 2027. While he is not fully committed to the idea, he acknowledged that it is something he is considering.
When asked about his potential candidacy, Newsom expressed humility and uncertainty, stating, “The idea that a guy who got 960 on his SAT, that still struggles to read scripts, that was always in the back of the classroom, the idea that you would even throw that out is, in and of itself, extraordinary. Who the hell knows? I’m looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets that moment. That’s the question for the American people.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming midterms, Newsom emphasized the importance of Democrats winning back the House in 2026 to restore a “rebalanced system.” He raised concerns about the possibility of Republicans pushing for “a third term of President Trump” if Mike Johnson remains Speaker of the House.
Newsom highlighted the significance of the 2026 elections in determining the future direction of the country, stating, “His presidency is over, de facto as we know it today, fire and fury signifying maybe something. But finally, you have rebalanced this system.”
In a similar vein, former Vice President Kamala Harris also recently discussed her political ambitions, affirming her commitment to public service. In an interview with BBC‘s “Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg,” Harris stated, “I am not done. I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones.”
