Google Pixel Rope Wristlet Review: A Great Accessory with a Big Problem

Google unveiled a range of new accessories alongside the Pixel 10 series earlier this year, but one particular accessory may have slipped under your radar. The Pixel Rope Wristlet, a simple yet functional wristlet, has not received much attention despite its potential usefulness. I recently had the opportunity to test out the Pixel Rope Wristlet with my Pixel 10 Pro XL, and here is my detailed review.

Simple Setup – but a Case to Answer

When the wristlet arrived, I was initially puzzled about how to attach it to my phone without obstructing the USB-C charging port. However, the setup was surprisingly straightforward, requiring the use of a compatible case to secure the Pixel Rope Wristlet in place. The official silicone case for the Pixel 10 series proved to be a perfect match, offering a slim profile while maintaining compatibility with Pixelsnap support.

The Pixel Rope Wristlet consists of two parts: the wristlet itself and a small lanyard patch that fits between the back of the phone and the case. To set it up, simply place the lanyard patch at the base of the case, thread the D-Ring through the USB-C port, attach it to the wristlet using the carabiner clip, and reinsert the phone into the case. The entire process takes less than 30 seconds and is compatible with most smartphones, not just Google devices.

A Stylish yet Practical Design

The Pixel Rope Wristlet is available in three color options: Black/Grey, Green/Yellow, and Purple/Blue. I tested the Purple/Blue variant, which features stylishly knotted ropes in contrasting colors. The design allows for easy adjustment to fit any wrist size while maintaining a fashionable appearance.

When worn, the wristlet is remarkably comfortable, even when carrying the weight of a device like the Pixel 10 Pro XL. The high-quality construction provides a sense of security, making it a practical solution for preventing phone theft. However, the thickness of the ropes may add bulk when placed in a pocket, which could be a consideration for some users.

The Availability Issue

Despite its initial availability, the Pixel Rope Wristlet has faced challenges in terms of availability. After a limited release in the US, the accessory has been removed from Google’s official store and has not been restocked. As a result, obtaining the wristlet has become a challenge, with third-party sellers offering it at inflated prices.

I personally purchased the Pixel Rope Wristlet from eBay for £17.78, significantly higher than the original $7 price tag. The current price on eBay has climbed to £19.99, making it difficult to justify the cost for a basic accessory. The lack of official availability and reliance on third-party sellers detract from the overall appeal of the Pixel Rope Wristlet.

In conclusion, the Pixel Rope Wristlet is a well-designed and functional accessory that is hindered by its limited availability and inflated pricing from resellers. While it offers practicality and style, the challenges in obtaining it may outweigh its benefits. For alternative Pixel accessories, consider exploring options such as the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, Pixelsnap Charger with Stand, and Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W charger.
