Hantavirus live updates: Dutch hospital confirms new hantavirus case

The French Health Ministry released a statement on Thursday confirming that a French national is undergoing testing for hantavirus after displaying mild symptoms. This individual had been in contact with a confirmed hantavirus case who had traveled from Saint Helena to Johannesburg.

Additionally, eight other French nationals who were not passengers on the MV Hondius have been identified as contacts of a confirmed case. The infected person left the ship during a flight between Saint Helena and Johannesburg, leading to potential exposure for these individuals. As a precautionary measure, diagnostic testing is currently being conducted on one of these individuals who exhibited mild symptoms, and isolation protocols have been put in place.

This recent development brings the total number of hantavirus cases linked to the MV Hondius to six confirmed cases and six suspected cases. The French Health Ministry is actively monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to prevent further spread of the virus.

It is crucial for individuals who may have been in contact with confirmed cases to remain vigilant and seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms associated with hantavirus. By following proper health guidelines and staying informed about the latest updates, we can work together to contain the spread of this potentially dangerous virus.

This information was reported by ABC News’ Zoe Magee and serves as a reminder of the importance of public health measures in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.
