Harper Murray Set for Women’s College Volleyball TV Event on Aug. 27
Women’s College Volleyball Set for Major Growth with “Spikes Under the Lights” Showcase Event
Women’s college volleyball is on the brink of a major growth spurt in the coming years, thanks to an exciting new showcase event called “Spikes Under the Lights.” This event, produced by Full Day Productions and GSE Worldwide, will bring together the four best college teams in the nation for a best-of-three competition with a $1 million purse on the line. Set to air live on August 27 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, “Spikes Under the Lights” is poised to shine a big spotlight on the sport. Full Day Productions and GSE Worldwide are currently finalizing a deal with a top TV network to broadcast the event.
Full Day Productions, a part of Connor Schell’s Words + Pictures and North Road Co., aims to make “Spikes Under the Lights” an annual event. The showcase will feature two semifinal matchups followed by a championship final, providing a thrilling experience for both players and fans alike.
According to Nickole Tara, chief business officer for Words + Pictures and Full Day, volleyball is a unique college sport that stands on its own as a powerhouse for women. With the rise of professional leagues and strong ratings for events like the League One Volleyball championships, the stage is set for volleyball to explode in popularity.
One of the key factors driving this growth is the increasing number of women who have played volleyball at the high school and college levels. Star players like Harper Murray from the University of Nebraska are among the most sought-after and highly paid college athletes in the NIL era. Teams from Nebraska, Penn State, Florida State, and Texas’ SMU will be competing in “Spikes Under the Lights,” with the prize money going to support the winning school’s volleyball program.
GSE Worldwide, an established promoter and producer of sporting events, is no stranger to putting on successful competitions. Full Day Productions, known for its expertise in handling big live events, will have ownership in “Spikes Under the Lights,” marking a new chapter in their event production portfolio.
Tara is confident that volleyball is on track to become a top collegiate sport and a platform for female athletes to showcase their skills. The fast-paced nature of the game, with its explosive plays and emotional highs and lows, makes it a perfect fit for live TV broadcasting. With brief pauses for storytelling and host-added content, volleyball offers a compelling viewing experience for fans.
As “Spikes Under the Lights” gears up to take center stage this summer, the future looks bright for women’s college volleyball. With a growing fan base and increasing opportunities for players, the sport is primed for a new era of success and recognition.
