HBO Max Sets Release Date, Trailer

After a successful run, HBO Max has announced that the upcoming season of the Emmy-winning comedy “Hacks” will be its final season. Season 5 of “Hacks” is set to premiere on Thursday, April 9 at 9 p.m. ET, with a total of ten episodes airing weekly (except for April 30 and May 7, when two episodes will be released) leading up to the series finale on Thursday, May 28.

The decision to end the show after Season 5 was not unexpected, as hints had been dropped by the producers and stars in the past. On the Emmys red carpet last September, Hannah Einbinder, who plays Ava Daniels, expressed that knowing it’s the last season is bittersweet but feels right to conclude the story at the right time.

Creators Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs had always envisioned “Hacks” as a five-season series, with a clear direction for the storyline. They mentioned that the final scene of the final episode had been planned since 2015, and they are excited to bring the story to a close in Season 5.

Season 4 ended with Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava in Singapore, where they encountered a loophole that allowed Deborah to perform on stage despite a non-compete clause. However, a false report of Deborah’s death by TMZ added a twist to the storyline.

The logline for Season 5 reveals that Deborah and Ava return to Las Vegas after the mistaken news reports to secure Deborah’s legacy as a comedian more determined than ever.

“Hacks” has been a critical and awards success, with Jean Smart winning four Emmys for her role as Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder also winning an Emmy. The show has received multiple awards and accolades, including Golden Globes and SAG/Actor awards.

The Season 5 cast will include regulars Smart, Einbinder, Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, and Rose Abdoo. Guest stars joining the cast for the final season include Christopher Briney, with returning guests like Kaitlin Olson and Jane Adams.

The show, created and showrun by Downs, Aniello, and Statsky, has been a collaborative effort of various executive producers and production companies. The first look at the new season promises an exciting conclusion to the beloved series.

As fans gear up for the final season of “Hacks,” they can expect a satisfying conclusion to the story of Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels as they navigate the world of comedy and show business. The show’s legacy will surely live on even after its final episode airs.
