Hulk Hogan admitted to taking dangerously high doses of fentanyl to cope with physical pain during his tenure at TNA following his divorce from Linda Hogan.
In the Netflix docuseries “Hulk Hogan: Real American,” which turned out to be his final interview before his untimely death in July 2025 due to a heart attack, Hogan revealed the extent of his dependence on the drug.
Struggling financially after his divorce from Linda in 2009, Hogan joined TNA to make ends meet. However, it became evident that his physical condition couldn’t support the demands of the sport, leading him to rely on fentanyl for pain relief.
Describing his fentanyl intake, Hogan shared, “I was taking 80-milligram fentanyls, two in the morning, stuffing them under my gums here … I had two 300mg patches of fentanyl on my legs and they gave me six 1500mg fentanyl lollipops to eat.”
According to Hogan, a pharmacist was shocked by the amount of fentanyl he was consuming, stating, “You should be dead. We have never seen a human being take this much fentanyl.”
The pain became so unbearable that Hogan had to sleep in a chair, as even the slightest movement would trigger intense spasms in his back.
Hogan’s wrestling career came to an end in 2012, and he parted ways with TNA in 2013 upon the expiration of his contract.
