Hulu Orders ‘Southern Bastards’ Pilot

Hulu’s Onyx Collective has greenlit a pilot for a series adaptation of the popular “Southern Bastards” graphic novels, as reported by Variety. The original creators, Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, are on board as executive producers for the project. The teleplay has been penned by Bill Dubuque, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Nia DaCosta, who will direct the pilot. Matt Olmstead has been tapped as the showrunner, with Layne Eskridge, Proximity Media, and Gabriel Nadig also serving as executive producers.

The series is set to follow a determined military veteran as she ventures into Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father. However, she soon discovers a web of organized crime orchestrated by the infamous high school football coach in the South.

Originally released between 2014 and 2018, “Southern Bastards” has garnered critical acclaim, winning the Harvey Award for best new series in 2015 and multiple Eisner Awards in 2016.

Bill Dubuque, known for co-creating the Emmy Award-winning series “Ozark,” is recognized for his work on both television and film projects. Nia DaCosta, who has directed episodes of “Top Boy” and notable films like “The Marvels” and “The Candyman,” will helm the pilot for “Southern Bastards.” Matt Olmstead, the co-creator of “Chicago Med” and “Chicago PD,” brings his extensive experience in television to the series as showrunner.

The talented team behind “Southern Bastards” is represented by top agencies in the industry, including CAA, Entertainment 360, and WME. With a stellar cast and crew attached to the project, fans can expect a gripping and captivating adaptation of the beloved graphic novels.
