‘I thought I would die’: Sole survivor from Air India plane crash speaks out

The only survivor of the tragic Air India plane crash that occurred on a flight from Ahmedabad, India, to the United Kingdom is Vishwaskumar Ramesh. This devastating incident resulted in the loss of 241 passengers and crew members on board, as well as five individuals on the ground. Ramesh, who miraculously survived the crash, shared his harrowing experience from his hospital bed, recounting how he thought he would not make it out alive.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Ramesh described the terrifying moments leading up to the crash. He mentioned how the section of the plane where he was seated collapsed into a building, but he managed to find a way to escape. Despite witnessing the death of an air hostess and facing imminent danger, Ramesh somehow found the strength to unfasten his seatbelt and flee the wreckage.

The Air India aircraft was carrying a total of 230 passengers and 12 crew members when it crashed shortly after takeoff. The impact not only claimed the lives of those on board but also caused casualties among medical students inside the building that the plane crashed into. Many individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Ramesh’s brother, Nayankumar Ramesh, expressed his astonishment at his brother’s survival, referring to it as a “miracle.” He recounted the moment when his brother informed him about the crash and his miraculous escape from the plane. Nayankumar also shared his newfound fear of flying, acknowledging the trauma caused by the tragic incident.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved in the crash had a significant amount of flying hours, with no previous history of passenger fatalities. Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, extended their condolences to the families of the victims and pledged full support for the investigation. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, offering his thoughts and prayers to those affected by the devastating event.

As the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, the aviation community mourns the loss of lives and remains vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of air travel.
