IKEA set to open new smaller-format store in Colorado Springs
IKEA, the renowned furniture and home goods retailer, is set to unveil a new store in Colorado Springs next week, featuring a distinctive design that sets it apart from its Centennial location.
The Swedish brand is introducing a smaller “plan and order point with pick-up” store at 5102 N. Nevada Ave. in the University Village Colorado Shopping Center.
Located in a shopping center, this storefront is notably smaller than the Centennial store opened by IKEA in 2011, which spans 415,000 square feet.
The new store will offer a unique experience compared to traditional large-format IKEA locations, as it will allow customers to meet with an IKEA team to plan and order personalized home furnishing solutions, such as kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms.
“We are excited to provide the Colorado Springs metro area residents with more shopping options and opportunities to experience IKEA,” stated IKEA U.S. CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer Javier Quiñones.
“This new location showcases our dedication to bringing IKEA closer to more people, making it more convenient and affordable to access our home furnishing products and solutions.”
While customers won’t be able to take products home the same day, IKEA staff can arrange for delivery or schedule pick-up orders at the on-site pick-up location.
Online shoppers can also choose to pick up qualifying orders by selecting “IKEA Colorado Springs at UVC” as their preferred pick-up location at checkout.
The grand opening celebration for the new store is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 5, offering customers exclusive tours, giveaways, food sampling, and more.
The opening of the Centennial store in 2011 attracted massive crowds, with reports of nearly 1,000 shoppers waiting in line for hours. Some customers even camped out for three nights to be among the first 38 in line and win a free couch.
“Residents of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region can now explore, plan, and order home furnishing solutions closer to home without having to travel to our larger store in Centennial,” said IKEA Centennial Market Manager Laurie Helm.
“We’re thrilled to open our doors this fall and provide a welcoming space where customers can receive personalized guidance, discover new ideas, and bring IKEA inspiration into their homes.”
What began as a small mail-order company in rural Sweden has evolved into a global home furnishing brand with over 50 retail locations in the U.S.
