International airlines cancel flights to Venezuela after FAA warning
Multiple international airlines have canceled flights to and from Venezuela in response to a warning issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding a potential safety risk in the region.
TAP Air Portugal announced the cancellation of its flights to Caracas for Saturday and Tuesday based on information from US aviation authorities indicating unsafe conditions in Venezuelan airspace.
Similarly, Iberia Airlines of Spain decided to indefinitely suspend flights to Venezuela starting Monday, with plans to reassess the situation before resuming operations.
Other airlines like Gol from Brazil, Avianca from Colombia, Caribbean Airlines, and Latam Airlines have also halted their flights to Venezuela following the FAA warning.
The FAA advised airlines to exercise caution in the Maiquetia area of Venezuela due to heightened security risks and increased military activity in the region.
Direct flights from US carriers to Venezuela have been suspended since 2019, although some airlines continue to fly over the country on South American routes.
Delta and United confirmed that they had ceased flying routes over Venezuela several months ago in light of the ongoing safety concerns.
