Jason Isaacs Warns ‘Hate Is Being Weaponized’ In Acceptance Speech
Jason Isaacs, a talented actor known for his Emmy-nominated role in “The White Lotus” Season 3, delivered a powerful acceptance speech at the Creative Coalition‘s Humanitarian Awards Luncheon on Sept. 13. During his speech, Isaacs highlighted the dangerous trend of hate being weaponized across the world.
Isaacs began his speech by sharing how his mother, who always prioritized helping others over herself, instilled in him a sense of responsibility from a young age. Despite initially finding her annoying, he now recognizes the importance of using his privilege for the greater good. The actor revealed that he turned to acting as a way to escape from his own identity, but ultimately found fulfillment in giving back to the community.
One poignant story Isaacs shared was about his experience volunteering with a teenage filmmaker in South Central Los Angeles. Despite facing challenges in her life, the aspiring filmmaker found hope and inspiration through the arts. This resonated with the Creative Coalition’s mission of advocating for and supporting the arts.
The Humanitarian Awards’ theme of “caregiving” was reflected in the speeches of the honorees, including Isaacs and his “White Lotus” co-stars Jon Gries and Natasha Rothwell. Each honoree shared personal stories and perspectives on the importance of caregiving in their lives.
John Turturro, another honoree, shared a touching story about caring for his late brother who faced mental and physical health challenges. Skye P. Marshall emphasized the impact of role models in her life, particularly her mother who taught her the importance of standing up for equality. Natasha Rothwell spoke about using her platform to amplify marginalized voices and address mental health issues.
Brianne Howey, a long-time advocate for mental health awareness, highlighted the importance of practicing self-care and normalizing conversations around mental health. Jon Gries and Judith Light both emphasized the need for empathy and giving back to the community, acknowledging the role of the arts in fostering understanding and compassion.
The Humanitarian Awards Luncheon, held at Craig’s restaurant in West Hollywood, was a prelude to the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. Hosted by Variety‘s Marc Malkin, the event was co-chaired by Michael Chiklis, Michelle Chiklis, and Eden Alpert. Despite the challenges facing the world, the Creative Coalition remains a beacon of hope, inspiring positive change and unity in the face of adversity.
