Jimmy O. Yang to Narrate ‘Panda School’ Doc for Beach House Pictures
Beach House Pictures, a renowned Fremantle label based in Singapore, has recently unveiled two captivating documentaries for viewers to enjoy. The first documentary, titled “Panda School,” is a three-part wildlife series narrated by the talented comedian and actor, Jimmy O. Yang. The series follows a group of giant panda cubs at a conservation facility in China’s Sichuan Province as they learn the necessary skills to survive in the wild. Produced for Nat Geo EMEA in partnership with Fremantle, “Panda School” showcases the adorable pandas in their natural habitat. With Hannah Hoare serving as the series director and Nell Gordon, Drew Jones, and Donovan Chan as executive producers, the documentary promises to be both educational and heartwarming.
Jimmy O. Yang, best known for his roles in “Silicon Valley” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” lends his voice to narrate all three episodes of “Panda School.” Expressing his excitement for the project, Yang shared, “I love Pandas, I love Chinese culture, and I can’t believe how much I’ve learned about these cute fluffy guys after narrating the show. It’s really one of the most fun jobs I’ve had. ‘Panda School’ has all the drama of a coming-of-age story – with maximum cuteness overload.”
The second documentary unveiled by Beach House Pictures is “Secret Weapons of China’s First Emperor,” a one-hour history documentary co-produced with China Media Group (CMG). This documentary delves into the remarkable rise of Qin Shi Huang, who united China’s rival states over two thousand years ago. Through detailed reconstructions and recent archaeological discoveries, the film explores the military innovations that enabled Qin Shi Huang to build armies at an unprecedented speed and scale. With Fremantle holding global distribution rights outside China, the documentary has already garnered interest from networks such as CCTV in China and SBS in Australia.
Executive produced by Donovan Chan and Rob Sixsmith for Beach House Pictures, “Secret Weapons of China’s First Emperor” offers a fresh perspective on a pivotal chapter in Chinese history. Chan expressed, “We’re always looking for stories that combine distinctive access with universal audience appeal. ‘Secret Weapons of China’s First Emperor’ achieves remarkable access along with cutting-edge archaeology to bring fresh insight to one of the most fascinating and consequential chapters in Chinese history.”
In addition to these two documentaries, Beach House Pictures has been busy with a series of recent commissions, including “60 Day Hustle,” “The Longest Wait,” “Ed Stafford’s Rite of Passage,” and “Ski Dreams.” These projects highlight the company’s commitment to producing high-quality factual content that entertains and resonates with audiences globally. With a diverse range of storytelling approaches, Beach House Pictures continues to showcase compelling narratives that captivate viewers and shed light on intriguing topics.
