Law firm Allen Vellone moves to join Michael Best at Block 162
Pat Vellone, a University of Colorado graduate, began his legal career at 1600 Stout St. in 1985. Now, after 40 years at the firm that bears his name, Allen Vellone, he is preparing to embark on a new chapter.
Reflecting on his journey, Vellone expressed both bittersweetness and excitement about the upcoming changes. He never imagined the growth and success of the firm when he started, grateful for the 32 years of building a practice with his colleagues.
The 15 attorneys and 11 professional staff of Allen Vellone are set to join national firm Michael Best in a move described as a “combination.” They will occupy nearly 25,000 square feet at Block 162, marking a significant transition for the team.
While mergers and consolidations are common in the legal industry, Vellone acknowledges the challenges of hiring top talent in a competitive market. The idea of joining forces with Michael Best first surfaced six years ago, eventually materializing into the current transition.
Despite initial concerns about the culture of Big Law and the implications of change, Vellone and his team ultimately embraced the opportunity for growth and development. The announcement of the agreement was met with a mix of emotions, but Vellone is confident that the move is the right fit for the firm.
