Lawrence O’Donnell Warns Trump It’s ‘Too Late’ To Stop Probe Into His ‘Political Monster’
Lawrence O’Donnell, host of MS NOW, criticized President Donald Trump for his $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” that aims to support MAGA allies who believe they were unjustly targeted by the Department of Justice. This move has even caused concern among top Republicans.
O’Donnell emphasized that it is too late for Trump to back out of the $1.776 billion political entity he created. Senate Majority Leader John Thune expressed dissatisfaction with White House staff indicating that the fund is “dead for now.”
Thune stated that the best outcome would be for the Trump administration to confirm the permanent abandonment of the fund, as speculations arose after an anonymous White House source mentioned it was “dead for now.”
O’Donnell played a recording of Thune expressing the need for the fund to be permanently abandoned, highlighting the opposition from Democrats in Congress and the unexpected backlash from Trump’s own party.
Trump settled a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS by agreeing to a $1.776 billion fund and a promise from the Justice Department not to investigate any tax crimes committed by him or his family. This settlement has put Trump in legal jeopardy.
O’Donnell criticized the “incompetent buffoons” around Trump who have caused legal troubles for the former president. He noted that both House and Senate Republicans have turned against him regarding the fund.
Thune and even Trump loyalists like House Speaker Mike Johnson opposed the fund, indicating a lack of support for Trump’s actions. O’Donnell argued that Trump cannot reverse course on the fund, as it has already faced legal challenges.
