LI killer couple who hacked up roommates with meat cleavers get light sentences after blaming victims’ abuse
The chilling case of a killer couple who brutally murdered their roommates in Amityville has shocked Long Island residents. Jeffrey Mackey, 40, and his girlfriend Alexis Nieves, 35, escaped life sentences when they pleaded guilty to the murders of Malcolm Craig Brown, 53, and Donna Conneely, 59, in their shared home.
The couple claimed that they were victims of abuse at the hands of Brown and Conneely, which led to a plea deal that resulted in Mackey receiving 22 years in prison and Nieves receiving 11 years. Mackey and Nieves also confessed to their roles in the murders, with Mackey pleading guilty to second-degree murder and Nieves to manslaughter.
