LiPetri seeks rematch vs. NY Rep. Suozzi after near-upset in 2024
Former New York State Assemblyman Michael LiPetri is gearing up for a rematch against Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi in the upcoming election. In the previous election, LiPetri came close to defeating Suozzi, losing by a mere 3.6 percentage points. Now, with the backing of the Nassau GOP machine, including Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, LiPetri is eager to secure the GOP nomination and challenge Suozzi once again.
LiPetri is aligning himself with former President Trump and his policies, highlighting the benefits that Republicans have delivered under Trump’s leadership. He emphasizes the importance of issues such as no tax on tips, social security, and overtime, as well as raising the SALT tax cap to help hardworking New Yorkers. Additionally, LiPetri is positioning himself as a strong opponent of New York City’s Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani, framing the election as a choice between common sense and chaos.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has thrown his support behind LiPetri, praising him for standing for the values and principles of the Long Island community. Blakeman believes that LiPetri is committed to supporting law enforcement and reducing costs for taxpayers. On the other hand, Suozzi’s campaign has remained silent on the matter, with the congressman distancing himself from Mayor Mamdani and endorsing former Governor Andrew Cuomo for mayor.
Despite facing a potential primary challenge from lawyer Greg Hach, LiPetri is confident in his ability to secure the GOP nomination with the support of party leadership. Hach, however, remains determined to compete and has garnered endorsements from grassroots America-First groups in the NY-3 district. The race is predicted to be a tough battle, with the non-partisan Cook Political Report rating it as a “lean Democrat” win for Suozzi.
As the election season heats up, all eyes will be on the rematch between LiPetri and Suozzi, as they vie for the House seat representing parts of Nassau County and Queens. Voters will have the opportunity to decide the direction they want their district to take and which candidate best represents their values and priorities.
