Male prostitute who murdered neurosurgeon smirks, smiles and waves as hit with huge sentence
Desmond Burks, a male prostitute, was sentenced to up to 60 years in prison for the murder of beloved Detroit neurosurgeon Dr. Devon Hoover. Burks, who also admitted to manslaughter in a road rage attack, showed a disturbing lack of remorse during his sentencing, smirking, smiling, and waving in court.
The gruesome details of the case revealed that Dr. Hoover was found wrapped in a carpet, naked except for one black sock, with two bullets in the back of his head in his Denver mansion. Burks stole at least $95,000 from the doctor and went on shopping sprees shortly after the murder, even giving himself the nickname “Big Money Des.”
During the sentencing, Burks exhibited a callous attitude, rolling his eyes and denying responsibility for the crimes. He claimed to be a “people person” and denied being gay, despite evidence of his involvement in a relationship with Dr. Hoover. The judge sentenced him to 35-60 years for the neurosurgeon’s murder and an additional 10-15 years for the road rage attack.
Despite Burks’ lack of remorse, the families of the victims delivered powerful impact statements in court. Dr. Hoover’s sisters offered Burks a Bible, but he showed no respect for their gesture. One sister expressed the devastating impact of losing her brother in such a senseless and violent manner.
The sentencing was deemed a fitting consequence by Dr. Hoover’s sister, as Burks will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars. The stepdaughter of the other victim, Reda Saleh, spoke of the pain of losing a beloved family member who deserved to see his grandchildren grow up.
The case of Desmond Burks serves as a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of violent crimes and the importance of seeking justice for the victims. It also highlights the chilling lack of empathy displayed by some individuals who commit heinous acts.
