Manhunt underway after Missouri deputy slain, suspect’s truck spotted heading toward Arkansas border
A manhunt is currently underway in Missouri following the tragic shooting and killing of a deputy on Monday afternoon. The incident took place in Highlandville, leading to a statewide alert issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The suspect vehicle involved in the shooting has been identified as a white 2001 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup truck with Missouri license plate 9MGX36. The truck was last seen traveling southbound on US Route 160 from Route HH in Christian County. Authorities described the vehicle as having a silver brush guard, a rusted roof, black body trim, tinted rear windows, and a three-ball hitch. No specific suspect description has been released at this time.
Law enforcement officials are urging the public not to approach the vehicle if spotted and to immediately contact 911. The community is on high alert as the search for the suspect intensifies.
In response to the tragic incident, Senator Josh Hawley expressed his condolences, stating, “A deputy in my home county was shot and killed today. Erin and I are praying for his family. May justice be swift.” Senator Eric Schmitt also shared his sentiments, calling the shooting a devastating loss for Christian County.
The suspect involved in the shooting has been identified as Richard Dean Bird.
