A recent report has revealed that rates have increased by over 300%, with one city reaching a staggering $3,000 per night.

Following the announcement of the 104-match schedule by FIFA, room rates at 96 Marriott and Hilton hotels have skyrocketed. The average per-night rate for an opening game now sits at $1,013, a significant jump from $293 just three weeks prior.

The most drastic price increase was seen in Mexico City for the June 11 opener between Mexico and South Africa. The Marriott resort Le Meridien Mexico City Reforma near Azteca Stadium saw rates surge by 2,372%, reaching an eye-watering $3,882 per night.

In the United States, hotel rates also experienced substantial increases. Houston saw the highest surge at 457%, followed by Kansas City (364%), Atlanta (344%), and the San Francisco Bay Area (342%). New York City and New Jersey hotels saw rates climb by 228% for a two-night stay around Brazil’s match against Morocco.

Despite the steep price hikes, Toronto in Canada experienced the smallest spike among host cities, with rates for the opening match rising by 78%.

The World Cup, known as the most-watched sporting event globally, will take place in 16 host cities, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York/New Jersey, and Toronto.
