Mass. Gov. Maura Healey aide busted after allegedly having 8 kilos of cocaine sent to office
A shocking incident has rocked the administration of Democratic Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, as one of her staffers, LaMar Cook, was arrested on drug trafficking charges. The arrest came after authorities intercepted a significant amount of cocaine, totaling eight kilograms, that was being delivered to a state office building where Cook worked as the deputy director of Healey’s western Massachusetts office.
Cook, who has been in his position since 2023, was charged with trafficking over 200 grams of cocaine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. The investigation into Cook also led to the seizure of multiple parcels containing approximately 21 kilograms of cocaine by Massachusetts State Police.
The arrest of Cook took place during a traffic stop following a “controlled delivery operation” of eight kilos of cocaine to the Springfield State Office Building. Additionally, parcels containing 13 kilos of cocaine were seized at the Hotel UMass in Amherst, where Cook was previously employed, linking him to the drug trafficking operation.
During his arraignment in Springfield District Court, Cook pleaded not guilty, and his bail was set at $25,000. Following his arrest, Cook was terminated from his position in Healey’s administration. A spokesperson for Healey expressed disappointment in Cook’s actions, stating that they represent a breach of public trust and are unacceptable.
Political opponents of Healey were quick to criticize her leadership in light of Cook’s arrest. Republican candidates Mike Kennealy and Brian Shortsleeve condemned the incident, with Kennealy vowing to address the issues created by Healey’s administration if elected governor in 2026. Shortsleeve emphasized the seriousness of having a top aide involved in drug trafficking and called for accountability from Healey.
As the investigation into Cook’s criminal activities continues, Healey’s office has vowed to cooperate with law enforcement. The governor has yet to provide a public statement regarding the incident. The shocking turn of events has raised questions about the integrity and management of Healey’s administration, with calls for transparency and accountability in the state government.
