‘My Brilliant Friend’ Gets Turkish Adaptation From OGM Pictures

Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels Set to Make Waves in Turkey

Elena Ferrante’s acclaimed Neapolitan novels are set to captivate audiences in Turkey as Wildside, The Apartment, Fremantle, and Fandango collaborate with OGM Pictures to produce the first scripted format adaptation of the beloved drama “My Brilliant Friend.” Production for the Turkish adaptation is slated to kick off later this year.

Ferrante’s four-novel cycle, delving into the enduring friendship between two women in 1950s Naples, garnered widespread acclaim when it was brought to screens by HBO and RAI in 2018. The series wrapped up its final season last November after receiving critical acclaim throughout its run.

The original series, created by Saverio Costanzo and produced by Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment and Wildside (both Fremantle companies) and Domenico Procacci for Fandango, in collaboration with RAI Fiction and HBO Entertainment, was praised for its compelling storytelling and unforgettable characters.

The Turkish audience is already familiar with the property, as Fremantle distributed the original series to over 170 territories, with Turkish viewers accessing it through various platforms like Digiturk, Tabii, Turkcell TV+, and Puhu TV.

Amac Us, senior VP of distribution for the Middle East, Africa, and South Eastern Europe, International at Fremantle, expressed excitement about the partnership with OGM Pictures and the opportunity to introduce Ferrante’s story to new audiences in Turkey. He highlighted the universal appeal of “My Brilliant Friend” and its ability to resonate with viewers across borders.

OGM Pictures founder Onur Güvenatam emphasized the honor and responsibility of adapting Ferrante’s work for Turkish audiences, underscoring the profound themes of human connection, friendship, and identity explored in the masterpiece. OGM Pictures, known for producing hits like “Golden Boy” and “Innocent,” is dedicated to staying true to Ferrante’s vision while creating an engaging experience for viewers.

Established in 2019, OGM Pictures has quickly made a name for itself with a diverse portfolio that includes popular titles like “Red Room,” “Chrysalis,” and “Last Call for Istanbul.” The studio is committed to delivering quality content that resonates with audiences worldwide.
