North Korea’s Kim says he’ll ‘unconditionally support’ Russia’s war against Ukraine

In a recent meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and a top Russian official, Kim pledged “unconditional support” for Russia’s war against Ukraine, as reported by North Korea’s state media. This marks a deepening of ties between the two nations.

Back in April, North Korean troops were confirmed to have been deployed to Russia for the first time, joining forces to repel a Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk border region. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude for North Korea’s participation and vowed to remember their sacrifices.

During the recent meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in Pyongyang, Kim reiterated North Korea’s unwavering support for Russia’s foreign policies, particularly on the Ukrainian issue. The two leaders discussed strengthening their strategic partnership and reaching a consensus on various international issues.

The discussion also touched on rebuilding the Kursk region and honoring the contribution made by North Korean soldiers. Despite Russia’s claim of fully reclaiming the region, Ukraine maintains a military presence there.

Intelligence reports suggest that North Korea deployed thousands of troops to Russia, signaling its active involvement in the conflict. Additionally, North Korea has been supplying conventional weapons to Russia.

Concerns have been raised about Russia providing economic and military assistance to North Korea, potentially aiding in the enhancement of its nuclear weapons program. The international community closely monitors these developments.
