Nuggets falls to Timberwolves as Nikola Jokic, Julius Randle get ejected
The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a 112-96 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of their playoff series, taking a commanding 3-1 lead. The game was marked by a standout performance from Ayo Dosunmu, who scored a career-high 43 points off the bench. Dosunmu’s scoring prowess was a crucial factor in the Timberwolves’ success, especially in light of injuries to key players Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo.
Dosunmu’s 43-point outburst was the highest-scoring playoff performance by a reserve in 50 years, showcasing his ability to step up when needed. His impressive shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc, and flawless free throw shooting were instrumental in propelling the Timberwolves to victory.
In addition to Dosunmu’s heroics, Naz Reid contributed 17 points and nine rebounds, while Julius Randle added 15 points and nine boards for Minnesota. On the other side, Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 30 points, with Nikola Jokic chipping in 24 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists. However, Denver’s struggles from beyond the arc, shooting just 22%, proved to be a significant obstacle.
The game took a contentious turn towards the end, as tensions flared between Jokic and Randle, resulting in both players being ejected. The incident stemmed from a late layup by Jaden McDaniels, which incited Jokic’s ire and led to a confrontation near the Wolves’ bench.
Despite the drama, the Timberwolves were able to maintain their focus and pull away in the second half. A strong defensive effort helped them claw back from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter, with Dosunmu and Randle leading the charge. A crucial 9-0 run in the fourth quarter, highlighted by Dosunmu’s steal and layup, stretched Minnesota’s lead to double digits.
Veteran guard Mike Conley also made a significant impact, hitting a key 3-pointer to solidify the Timberwolves’ advantage. With the series now shifting back to Denver for Game 5, Minnesota will look to close out the Nuggets and advance to the next round of the playoffs. The team’s resilience and depth will be vital as they aim to secure a spot in the postseason.
