NYC subway mugger shakes Muslim rider, taunts her about Zohran Mamdani: sources

A horrifying incident unfolded at a subway station in Borough Park, where a bigoted mugger targeted a Muslim woman in a vicious attack. The 20-year-old victim was waiting on the northbound D train platform when the assailant began following her around 10:50 a.m. on March 17.

As he cornered her, the attacker spewed hateful remarks, calling her a terrorist and making menacing comments about Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor. The situation escalated as he grabbed her arms, violently shook her, and then callously threw her to the ground before snatching her cell phone and fleeing the scene.

The victim, who sustained minor injuries, was treated on-site, while the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force launched an investigation into the disturbing incident. It remains unclear whether the victim was wearing any religious attire at the time of the attack.

Authorities are on the lookout for the suspect, described as a male with a light complexion wearing a black and white jacket, dark-colored pants, and black shoes. Surveillance footage captured the perpetrator evading the turnstile as he entered the station.

This appalling act of violence highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and action to combat bigotry and hate crimes in our communities. It is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by marginalized groups and the importance of standing together against discrimination and intolerance.
