Peloton recalls 833K bikes after reports of injuries caused by defective seats
Peloton Recalls Over 800,000 Bikes Due to Safety Concerns
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday that Peloton Interactive is recalling approximately 833,000 units of its Original Bike+ Model PL02. This decision comes after reports of the seat post assembly breaking during use, which poses a risk of falls and injuries.
According to the consumer safety regulator, Peloton has received three reports of the seat post breaking and detaching during use, resulting in injuries from falls in two incidents.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled bikes immediately and contact Peloton for a free repair. The company is offering customers a replacement seat post that can be self-installed.
This recall follows a previous voluntary pullback in 2023 of more than 2 million of Peloton’s original model bikes due to a similar seat post issue.
Despite these safety concerns, Peloton’s shares, which have declined by 18.1% this year, dropped by more than 6% following the recall announcement.
In an effort to offset higher expenses related to tariffs, Peloton has been implementing cost-cutting measures and reducing its workforce while increasing product prices.

In August, the company announced a 6% reduction in its global workforce and warned that the latest tariffs were expected to impact its 2026 free cash flow by approximately $65 million.
