Pixel 11 Phones May Get ‘Pixel Glow’ Rear Lights
Google is reportedly developing a new feature called ‘Pixel Glow’ for its upcoming Pixel 11 series, as reported by Tech Advisor. This rear lighting notification system is said to be similar to Nothing’s Glyph interface and will provide subtle light and color alerts when the phone is face down. Users will have customizable controls for calls and notifications, making it a convenient way to stay informed without having to constantly check the screen.
The Pixel Glow feature, previously referred to as “orbit” and “light_animations,” has now been explicitly mentioned in the Android 17 Beta as Pixel Glow. It is described as using subtle light and color on the back of the device to inform users of important activities when the phone is placed face down. This innovative feature will allow users to discreetly receive notifications while keeping their phone screen hidden in various situations such as meetings or cafes.
In addition to call and notification alerts, the Pixel Glow feature will also be active when using Gemini, providing users with a visual cue for incoming messages or alerts. Users will have the ability to customize how Pixel Glow notifications are displayed, offering a personalized experience based on their preferences.
Interestingly, Google seems to be expanding the Pixel Glow feature beyond smartphones to include a new laptop. While details about the laptop are scarce, this move suggests that Google is looking to integrate Pixel Glow across its hardware ecosystem, providing a cohesive experience for users across different devices.
As for the design of the Pixel 11 series, recent renders do not show an obvious new lighting system. It is speculated that the lighting may be integrated into the ‘G’ logo on the device, similar to the way Apple MacBooks feature a light-up logo on the rear lid. Alternatively, the lighting system could be hidden under the glass of the camera bar, offering a sleek and seamless design.
Overall, the introduction of Pixel Glow signals Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience through innovative features that offer practical benefits and a cohesive ecosystem across its hardware lineup. With the potential expansion of Pixel Glow to laptops and other devices, Google is poised to deliver a seamless and intuitive user experience for its customers.
