Rob Lowe to Lead Comedy ‘The Ram’ in the Works at ABC
Rob Lowe is set to star in a new comedy series currently in the works at ABC, according to exclusive information obtained by Variety.
The upcoming show, titled “The Ram,” is described as a workplace romantic comedy that follows Rob Lowe’s character, a daily sports talk show host, as he develops feelings for the new producer hired to improve his show’s ratings.
The talented team behind the series includes writers and executive producers Betsy Thomas, Bob Fisher, and Rob Greenberg. Notable sports talk host Colin Cowherd will also serve as an executive producer alongside Eric Tannebaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Jason Wang of the Tannenbaum Co. Additionally, Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, and Ben Brown from Omaha Productions are on board as executive producers. Lowe will not only star in the show but also executive produce.
The studio behind “The Ram” is 20th Television, with Omaha Productions currently under a first-look deal at the studio.
In his extensive television career, Rob Lowe has appeared in popular series such as “The West Wing,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Brothers and Sisters.” He most recently starred in the Fox drama “9-1-1: Lone Star” and the Netflix comedy “Unstable,” which he co-created with his son, John Owen Lowe.
Omaha Productions, founded by Peyton Manning in 2020, has a partnership with ESPN centered around “Monday Night Football,” as well as other projects like the upcoming Hulu comedy series “Chad Powers” starring Glen Powell.
Rob Lowe is represented by WME, Brillstein, Latham & Watkins, and R&CPMK, while the other creatives involved in the show have their own respective representation.
Currently, ABC has a limited number of scripted comedies in its primetime lineup, with “Abbott Elementary” and “Shifting Gears” being the only ones. The network is also gearing up for a reboot of “Scrubs” that will feature original cast members making a return.
With Rob Lowe at the helm and a talented team of writers and producers, “The Ram” is poised to be a must-watch comedy series that will surely captivate audiences.
