Russia attacks Kyiv with missiles and drones, wounding 11 ahead of Ukraine-US meeting

KYIV, Ukraine — Russia launched a devastating attack on Ukraine’s capital early Saturday morning, using missiles and drones that left at least 11 people injured. The assault came just one day before crucial talks between Ukrainian and U.S. officials.

Explosions echoed throughout the city as ballistic missiles and drones struck various locations in Kyiv, causing chaos and destruction. The onslaught began in the early hours of Saturday and continued into the daylight hours, prompting emergency power outages by Ukrenergo.

The timing of the attack coincided with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, where discussions on security guarantees and territorial issues were expected. The violence also resulted in the injury of two children in seven different areas of Kyiv, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration.

In the aftermath of the attack, a fire broke out in an 18-story residential building in the Dnipro district, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Similarly, a 24-story building in the Darnytsia district was hit, leading to additional fires in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivsky districts.

The impact of the strikes extended beyond the city limits, affecting both industrial and residential structures in the wider Kyiv region. In Vyshhorod, emergency responders managed to rescue an individual trapped under the debris of a collapsed house.
