Scott Mills Questioned by Police in 2018 Over Sexual Offense Claims

Top radio presenter Scott Mills was recently dismissed by the BBC following unspecified allegations of personal misconduct. This decision came after Mills was interviewed under caution by the Metropolitan Police in 2018 in connection with historic sexual offense allegations involving a teenage boy, as reported by BBC News.

The inquiry, which was opened in December 2016 after a referral from another force, focused on alleged offenses that were said to have taken place between 1997 and 2000. Despite being in his 40s at the time of the police interview, Mills was never charged. The Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the case in 2019 and determined that the evidence did not meet the threshold required for prosecution, leading to the formal closure of the investigation.

It is unclear whether the prior police inquiry played a role in the BBC’s decision to part ways with Mills. The Mirror was the first to report on his dismissal, suggesting that the underlying allegation relates to a historic relationship.

Mills had been hosting Radio 2’s “Breakfast Show” since the beginning of 2025, taking over from Zoe Ball. His final program aired on March 24, with veteran DJ Gary Davies stepping in the following morning. Lorna Clarke, BBC’s music director, informed staff that further details about the show’s future plans would be shared soon.

Having spent over 25 years at the BBC, Mills joined Radio 1 in 1998 and later hosted the station’s “Official Chart” show from 2018 to 2022. He then transitioned to Radio 2, where he took over the afternoon slot previously held by the late Steve Wright. In addition to his radio work, Mills appeared on “Strictly Come Dancing” in 2014, co-commentated on the “Eurovision” semi-finals in 2025, and made a cameo in a “Traitors” sketch during Comic Relief.

Despite the recent developments, a representative for Mills has yet to respond to requests for comment from various media outlets. The situation surrounding his departure from the BBC continues to evolve, with fans and colleagues alike left surprised by the news. Stay tuned for updates on this story as more information becomes available.
