Search for suspect Vance Boelter enters 2nd day after attacks on Minnesota lawmakers

A manhunt is underway for 57-year-old Vance Boelter following a series of violent attacks in Minnesota. The search for Boelter intensified after the fatal shooting of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as a separate shooting incident involving another state lawmaker and his spouse.

Law enforcement sources revealed that Boelter had a list of targets that included prominent Minnesota Democrats such as Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, and state Attorney General Keith Ellison. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter’s arrest.

Authorities warned the public not to approach Boelter as he is considered armed and dangerous. The suspect’s wife was briefly detained for questioning but was released without being arrested. Boelter is suspected of posing as a police officer to gain entry into the victims’ homes, arriving in a vehicle that resembled a police cruiser with flashing emergency lights.

The violent spree began with the shooting of Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife at their home in Champlin. Both victims underwent surgery and were reported to be in stable condition. Shortly after, Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed at their residence in Brooklyn Park.

Police believe that Boelter wore a latex mask during the attacks. In a dramatic confrontation with law enforcement officers, Boelter exchanged gunfire with them before fleeing on foot, leaving behind his fake police car where investigators found his target list.

Boelter, described as a husband and father, has a background in security and military training. He was involved in leading a private security firm called Praetorian Guard Security Services based in the Twin Cities area.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
