Soap Opera Legend Eileen Fulton Dead at 91
Eileen Fulton, the beloved soap opera icon known for her role as Lisa Grimaldi on “As the World Turns,” has passed away at the age of 91. Her death was confirmed on Monday, July 14, in Asheville, North Carolina, after a period of declining health.
Fulton’s journey to stardom began after studying drama and music at Greensboro College, leading her to move to New York City in 1956. She gained recognition in 1960 with her role in the film “Girl of the Night.” However, it was in 1960 when she landed the role of Lisa Grimaldi on “As the World Turns” that she truly made her mark in the entertainment industry. Initially meant to be a short-term character, Lisa became a staple on the show for five decades until its conclusion in 2010.
Aside from her soap opera success, Fulton also appeared on Broadway in productions such as “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” and starred in the spin-off series “Our Private World.” Her contributions to the genre were recognized with a Soap Opera Digest Award in 1991 and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 Daytime Emmys.
