Former England cricketer picks combined India-England Test XI; no Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah

Former England cricketer Nick Knight recently revealed his India-England combined Test XI on ESPN Cricinfo’s segment, ‘The Draft’, selecting players from both sides to form a team from the 21st century. Surprisingly, big names like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were not included in his lineup.

Knight went with a strong opening pair of Alastair Cook and Virender Sehwag, combining Cook’s ability to build innings with Sehwag’s aggressive approach. The middle order featured Michael Vaughan, Sachin Tendulkar, and Kevin Pietersen, followed by Graham Thorpe and MS Dhoni to complete a formidable top seven.

In the bowling department, Knight opted for a pace-heavy attack, including Zaheer Khan, Stuart Broad, and James Anderson. Zaheer, with 311 wickets in 92 Tests, added experience to the lineup, while Broad and Anderson, with 607 and 704 wickets respectively, brought their own brand of skill and mastery to the team. Graeme Swann was chosen as the lone spinner.

Despite the formidable pace attack, Knight’s team lacked balance due to the absence of all-rounders. Anil Kumble, the former Indian spinner, was selected as the 12th man to provide additional support.

In his playing career, Knight featured in 17 Tests, scoring 719 runs with one century and four half-centuries after making his debut in 1995.

Nick Knight’s combined India-England Test XI (21st century) included: Alastair Cook, Virender Sehwag, Michael Vaughan, Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen, Graham Thorpe, MS Dhoni (wk), Zaheer Khan, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, with Anil Kumble as the 12th man.

Meanwhile, the focus shifts to the upcoming fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester. With the series finely poised at 2-1 in favor of England after three Tests, the hosts have a chance to seal the series with a win in the fourth Test. A victory in Manchester would give them an unassailable 3-1 lead, putting them in a prime position to clinch the series.

The series has been a rollercoaster ride so far, with England winning the first Test, India dominating the second, and England bouncing back to secure a hard-fought win in the third Test. The stage is set for an intense battle as both teams aim to outdo each other in the upcoming Test match.

As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the outcome of the fourth Test, fans can expect a thrilling contest between two top-quality sides vying for supremacy on the field.
