Stephen Colbert Pokes Trump In One Of His Sorest Of All Sore Spots

In his Thursday night monologue, “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert had some bad news for President Donald Trump following the State of the Union address this week. Colbert joked, “Donald Trump is really dragging down broadcast television. I mean, if I were CBS, I’d cancel him.” The audience cheered at the line, which also took a playful jab at Colbert’s own employer. Last year, CBS announced the cancellation of Colbert’s show, citing financial reasons amidst a merger with parent company Paramount.

Despite the cancellation news, Colbert’s ratings remained steady. The live post-speech edition of “The Late Show” saw a 7% increase compared to the previous year’s broadcast after the address. Colbert humorously theorized, “People may not like watching Trump, but they do like watching me not like watching Trump.”

Colbert’s witty commentary and sharp humor continue to attract viewers, even in the face of political controversies. His ability to entertain and critique current events sets him apart as a late-night host worth watching.
