Stephen Colbert Reveals ‘The 1 Thing’ We Don’t Mock Trump Enough For
Stephen Colbert, host of the “Late Show,” started his show with some unconventional praise for President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
Colbert remarked, “You think it would be impossible for us to be shocked by Donald Trump. But give the man credit: Every so often, he takes the time to attach the electrodes to our nipples, and then it feels like the first time.”
The latest shock comes from the demolition of the White House East Wing to make space for a massive ballroom that will overshadow the main residence.
“We’re just nine months into Trump’s term, and he’s going ‘Hulk smash’ on the White House,” Colbert quipped. “Last time, it took him at least four years to bring a demo crew to the Capitol.”
Colbert then shared footage of the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol carried out by Trump supporters.
Referring to Trump’s plans for the ballroom, Colbert stated, “And the one thing I don’t think we make enough fun of is how his brain is filled with cotton-candy fantasies of lavish princely soirees.”
Colbert played a clip of Trump describing the grandeur of the ballroom at an event honoring two college baseball teams.
“So you’ll have drinks, cocktails, everything on this floor, and then they’ll say, ‘Welcome to dinner.’ You walk into the ballroom, ‘Mr. Senators,’ and you’re gonna see a ballroom the likes of which, I don’t think it will be topped,” Trump boasted.
Colbert mocked Trump’s “Barbie dream ballroom” and criticized the president for focusing on his parties during a government shutdown.
