Team USA Men’s Hockey Team Hangs Johnny Gaudreau’s Jersey In Locker Room At Winter Olympics
Team USA men’s ice hockey team is paying tribute to their late teammate Johnny Gaudreau at the Winter Olympics this year. The team, which has been performing well in Milan, is honoring Gaudreau by hanging his jersey in the locker room. Gaudreau, along with his brother Matthew, tragically lost their lives in a 2024 crash caused by an alleged drunk driver, which shook the hockey world.
During NBC’s coverage of Team USA’s game against Germany, Gaudreau’s nameplate and jersey were prominently displayed in the locker room. Prior to his untimely death, Gaudreau had an impressive record, holding the title for the most points ever scored by a U.S. men’s player at the World Championships.
Zach Werenski, who played with Gaudreau on the Columbus Blue Jackets, shared that he believes Gaudreau would have been a part of the Winter Olympics team. He described Gaudreau as one of the greatest American-born hockey players and expressed the team’s desire to make him and his brother proud at the Games.
Head coach Mike Sullivan commended the team’s tribute to Gaudreau, emphasizing the character it displays. Gaudreau’s family, in a statement released before the Milan Cortina Games, expressed that representing the USA at the Winter Olympics was one of Gaudreau’s dreams. They find solace in knowing that Gaudreau’s spirit lives on in the hearts of his teammates and fans.
