Teen girls among 145 stabbed with syringes across France at popular music festival, 12 sickos arrested
Nearly 150 concertgoers, including many teenage girls, were victims of a disturbing syringe attack at a nationwide music festival in France over the weekend. The incident occurred during the Fêtes de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, celebrations across the country. A total of 145 individuals were jabbed with syringes containing unknown substances, resulting in several victims being hospitalized.
The first attack was reported at 9:15 p.m. on Rue du Palais in Metz, northeastern France. Following the incident, authorities received reports of suspects involved in the attacks and managed to track down one of them using security footage. The individual was apprehended on Rue Serpenoise and handed over to the National Police and Justice Department for further investigation.
Firefighters responded promptly to each attack, deploying seven emergency vehicles and establishing a staging area for the victims on Place d’Armes. French officials had been expecting record crowds for this year’s Fêtes de la Musique, a popular music festival held annually on the summer solstice. The event features a mix of professional and amateur musicians performing at various venues, including parks and street corners in cities across the country.
Millions of people attended the festival in France, with an estimated 50,000 attendees in Metz and massive crowds in Paris. Despite warnings on social media platforms about the syringe attacks, festival-goers remained undeterred. The Interior Ministry reported a total of 145 victims across the nation, with Paris police investigating 13 cases in the capital.
It is unclear whether the syringes used in the attacks contained substances like Rohypnol or GHB, commonly used in date-rape drugs. As of Sunday, three individuals reported feeling unwell after being jabbed by the attackers. Some victims were taken to hospitals for toxicological tests to determine the contents of the syringes.
In response to the attacks, police arrested 12 suspects believed to be involved in the incidents. The attackers are suspected of targeting around 50 victims, according to police sources. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify additional perpetrators through the examination of evidence, including cell phone data.
The disturbing syringe attacks have sent shockwaves through France, prompting increased security measures and vigilance at public events. The safety and well-being of concertgoers and festival attendees remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies as they work to ensure the public’s protection in the wake of these unsettling incidents.
